OLL Varsity Champions!!

The Our Lady of Lourdes Lady Knights varsity basketball team defeated the St. Margaret Mary Chargers by a score of 40-17 to capture the Catholic School Athletic League (CSAL) Championship for the New Orleans Archdiocese February 14th, 2011, at St. Margaret Mary School in Slidell.

The Lady Knights used a stifling defense and effective inside and outside offensive game to get the win.  The Knights were led in scoring by point guard Gabrielle Sperber with 19 and center Allison Hartmann with 10. For SMM, Alexis Molero led the way with 11pts.

OLL advanced to the championship game by defeating St. Rosalie in the quarterfinal round 36-5 and St. Clement of Rome in the semis by a score of 38-17.

OLL scheduled 29 games last year, finishing with a record of 18-11, playing many of the local public schools and almost all of the 8th grade Catholic Girls High School teams in the greater New Orleans area.  Coaches Ted Rondeau and Shawn McManus felt they had some good talent returning from the JV squad and wanted to give them a challenging schedule.  They advanced to the semi-finals of the previous year's CSAL tournament, but came up short, losing by a single point to St. Phillip.

"We are proud of the girls and all of the hard work they put in last season", said McManus. "Our Lady of Lourdes School continues to rebuild its campus since Katrina.  We are still without a gym, so this achievement would not have been possible without generous assistance from the City of Slidell and our dear friends at St. Margaret Mary School.  We also are thankful for our team parents who helped drive our team all over the place to make this "traveling road show" season a success."

A full-size, state of the art gymnasium is presently under construction at OLL and is slated to be completed by the Spring of 2012.
